Hi Kelle,

I agree with sleepychick that you have an opportunity here to reduce your insomnia without sleep meds. Go to your doctor but be firm about not wanting medication -- instead get your doc to suggest a therapist.

If you have 2-5 days/month with insomnia/anxiety, and then you return to a normal sleep pattern, that sounds great!!! When you have an anxiety spell, remind yourself that MOST of the time (80-95%) you sleep well, and this little insomnia episode is temporary. Remind yourself that even though you feel it affects your job performance, etc., you still get through the day and manage fine.

I used to have your version of insomnia until it got out of control (the OTCs worked for me and I ended up taking them too frequently -- then they didn't work and I freaked out) and then I went to the prescription meds. Get a therapist pronto who will work with you to deal with your occasional anxieties.

Good luck!

A.N.
