Posted by Jim on August 28, 2001 at 10:39:27:Around 6 years ago when I was 22 something with my sleep changed almost overnight. Instead of having the kind of sleep where I would fall asleep and stay asleep until I was well rested, my sleep became light and unrestorative, always making me feel exhausted in the morning no matter how long I was in bed. I would characterize it as not fully waking up but being in a dreamy, light sleep and occasionally opening my eyes. This is especially true in the early morning hours. Despite seeing multiple doctors in the past few years, unfortunately nothing has changed. I've been on several medications including ambien, doxepin, elavil and nothing has even cracked the surface of my problem. There was nothing traumatic that caused this - it's just like a switch went off and there's no way to turn it back on again. Although I can function this way, I would say I'm conscious of being tired about 80% of my waking life, and it's not fun. Can anyone identify with me?
