I tried provigil for 4 weeks and was so depressed by the end of it, I figured non-medicated narcolepsy was better than that. I went back to ritalin, and feel like a normal person again. However, my doctor now wants me to try combining the two, to prevent continually increasing dosage of ritalin. Maybe you can find a different dose of provigil works better, or a combo. Anti-depressants have never worked for me either and usually made me depressed, so I am wondering is there is anything related between these. Regarding hormonal influences, I used to be able to predict my period based on how severe the EDS became. Some days three naps weren't enough, then starting the day I'd begin my period, I could go a couple of days without any sleep attacks. I hope they will study the connection more. Sure hope the provigil works okay for you.
