Driving

My son has mild narcolepsy/cataplexy. His major problem is
sleepiness while driving. He drinks cokes and eats while
driving, but oftentimes they don't help. He doesn't want to
take medication because of the highs & lows he got when
taking ritalen for his attention deficit disorder. Does anyone
know of any foods or drinks or special diets that seem to
help?
