Just a note...not all people with narcolepsy have cataplexy and some develop cataplexy long after they exhibit narcolepsy. I have narcolepsy, but am still very unsure about the cataplexy...only very mild if I have it...not enough to make a definate determination/diagnosis. I would also suggest the blood test which can confirm if he has the gene for narcolepsy. 1 of every 20 people carry the gene; only about 1 in 2000 are diagnosed/have narcolepsy symptoms. I don't think that the blood test is an absolute determinator...the information provided by the test must be coupled with sleep lab results and a review of symptoms.... but I may have old information. If there is a diagnostic blood test now available, maybe someone will read this and respond. Good luck with your son.
