Tammy,
Get yourself to the Cephalon web-site - they are the ones that make Provigil. www.cephalon.com
This gives you lots of information about the drug, precautions, interactions, side effects, etc. There is also a "consensus statement" available from the American Sleep Disorders Association that you can order. This will give you more information about stimulants and pregnancy. They are at: American Sleep Disorders Association, 6301 Bandel Road, Suite 101, Rochelster MN 55901, Attn: Wendy Kenworthy or e-mail at asda@asda.org
They also have a web site that might give you information: www.asda.org.
When I was in Chicago at a Narcolepsy conference, I questioned pregnancy and all these drugs. From what I can gather, its really not recommended that we take any drugs while pregnant, even if our docs tell us otherwise. Each drug is "scheduled" and has precautions available if you dig enough. In Chicago, I met one woman who said that she tried a lot of herbals and vitamins during pregnancy, but said that the saving grace was understanding work-mates who just let her sleep and didn't bother her or make her feel embarrassed. Her husband works at the same company, so he drove to and from work. I also heard of two other women who reported that their narcolepsy symptoms went away during the pregnancy and then returned after delivery. Makes ya wonder! You should find a doctor who will spend time with you to explain things or help get you to resources where you can find the answers on your own. Make sure to sign up for the narcoplepsy newletter put out by Cephalon...you can do that when you go to their web site. Please read my other responses about all this....you should be able to elliminate the nightmares a bit. I'd have to say that mine aren't gone completely, but at least I'm getting some good sleep and feel pretty good during the day. I'm taking Imiprimine and Klonipan at bedtime which is helping some. Now, I'm just waiting for my next period to see if the hormones are part of the culprit....gee, stay tuned!
You should also be able to find a directory of certified sleep docs on the web, in case you are shopping around! Good luck!
