I just wanted to comment that my understanding is that one doesn't have to have cataplexy to have narcolepsy. My neurologist told me that there were 4 or 5 (can't remember which) symptoms for narcolepsy, cataplexy being one and EDS (excessive daytime sleepiness) being the major symptom. He also told me that you don't have to experience cataplexy to have narcolepsy. He mentioned that in addition to "classic" narcolepsy there is atypical narcolepsy and idiopathic hypersomnia. I'm told that these are all pretty much the same thing with narcolepsy exhibiting the most symptoms and idiopathic hypersomnia maybe only exhibiting EDS. The treatment is pretty much the same for all. Unfortunately my treatments aren't very effective so far.
