Lisa --

I'm Narcoleptic too and I have a terrible getting into work. I have to be in at 7:00 am. I also work for a large company -- Lockheed Martin. I am half an hour late about two days a week, once in a blue moon an hour, my boss is a decent guy, and as long as make up the time (plus a little extra) it is not an issue. It used to be though, I had to make everyone I worked with understand about narcolepsey, and how hard I try to get to work.

You are protected under the ADA, specifically your ability to drive a motor vehicile is impared. (Although the "normal" individuals of this country are more likely to drive drousy]. I did have one manager give me a hard time once because I am cronically tardy. I told him that I was afraid to drive into work drousey (I had a 27mile drive), and that I was concerned that I could fall asleep and hit a bunch of kids waiting for the school bus. I asked him for a formal reprimand in writing and for him to sign it. I told him I would need it as a record if I did hit someones child to show that the management of my company was fully aware of my condition, chose to ignore it, and jeprodize my livelyhood instead. My manager at the time then just said "Just call if you are going to be late."

Hang in there,

Emma
