Hi Mary, I've been on Provigil for a couple of months now & my experience is that the medication seems to be very mild (no heavy side effects) & I can hardly tell I'm taking an med. but I do stay awake! I initially started taking 200mg
(1 pill). It kept me up all night. I changed to half a pill (100mg) & everything was fine. I stayed awake all day & was able to sleep at night. After about three weeks I was fine in the morning but did fall asleep a few times in the afternoons. So I changed back to a whole pill (200mg). Fine again - no sleep episodes & was able to sleep at night also. Now it's been about 2 months & I am starting to feel a little sleepy in the afternoons again. So, I'm either going to go to 1&1/2 pills or maybe take 1 in the morning & 1 at lunch & hope I can still sleep at night. I usually do my experimenting on the weekends so it doesn't interfere with work so much. My doctor had told me that I would probably need 400mg (2 pills) & should increase gradually. So I guess thats happening automatically. I just hope If & when I get up to 2/day that I stay wide awake all day & can still sleep at night.I don't think my doctor will increase my dosage past 400mg.
Overall I'm still quite satisfied with Provigil(Modafinil) & feel much more productive without the side effects of the amphetamine type drugs. I too am very sensitive to these type meds. I would rather suffer with narcolepsy than take amphetamines. They make me feel like a totally different person, one I don't want to be!
Hope this helps. Email me if you would like any more info. Although, I will be on vacation until 5/2.
Good Luck, Vern
