Most everyone remembers the slogan 'You are what you eat', and as it turns out, this may be very true. Hypocretins, the recently discovered hypothalmic peptites which appear to be non-existent in several narcolepsy sufferers are what help to stimulate food intake. In fact, Orexins, the name given to these hypocretins, actually means appetite in Greek. Another brain chemical, Serotonin, also plays a part in digestion.

I personally am more conviced that serotonin abnormalities are the more likely cause of many neurological sleeping problems, rather than the lack of orexins, and that those abnormalities lead to the lack of orexins.

I have been working with my doctor on this research now for 5 months, and believe I am close to fully isolating my own sleep disorder problems. After removing fluoride from my diet, I began to lose the urges to sleep and the problems of arousal. However there were times after a large meal that I would get extraordinarily sleepy, and go right to sleep. More recently, after reviewing others research on serotonin, melatonin, acetylcholine, orexins, and norepinepherine, I noted the use of fluorinated drugs to treat serotonin abnormalities and used that research to begin my own.

What I have found for my own problems is that by increasing protein intake via a protein supplement and a lowered carbohydrate diet, I have now totally shed myself of my prior symptoms. This gives real strong evidence to me being correct about the serotonin related problem, as it is known that protein increases serotonin uptake, and carbohydrates decrease uptake.

Fortunately, my doctor has been working with me and is as amazed as my family and I. Most doctors wouldn't spend the time needed for such a thing. The important thing to remember is not to change ones diet without first consulting with their doctor.
