For a good 10 years or so, I've been aware of sleep paralysis and it's links with Narcolepsy. I suffer from sleep paralysis, but I don't know if I'm Narcoleptic. I'm not even sure I want to be diagnosed as such.
The line that sent a chill up my spine when I read some other posts was "I find that if i sleep in any position other than on my left side, i always get SP." from Ulysses. Amazing. I'm exactly the same! My dreams are very vivid and I often feel like I can control them; I have done for many years.
When the SP first started 12 years ago, it was accompanied by some really strange sounds, like blood rushing through my head. Someone on the forum called it wind. It was a terrifying experience and still is from time to time. Over the years, though, I've come to recognise the onset of SP and just relax until it's passed.
I don't recall any specific hallucinations, but I remember feelings of extreme dread when in the midst of SP. I get frequent migraines, can nap at the drop of a hat (although I've never had a full-blown Narcoleptic attack) and often wake up completely drained and fuzzy-headed, even after 8-10 hours of sleep. I can't remember the last time I woke up refreshed.
The last time I got into a fight when I was a teenager, my body wouldn't fight back. I was enraged, but I felt completely drained and couldn't move. I always recall that feeling. I feel normal when I'm happy or elated.
I seem to have a really short attention span for certain things, such as reading with the goal of learning something. I lose my concentration very easily. Other things, such as watching movies and playing games on my PC, I could do for hours and hours. Perhaps that just tells me I'm lazy. ;) Also, bright lights make me tired.
I know this will sound familiar to many regular posters/readers. I know I should go see a doctor or visit a sleep disorder clinic, but I'm afraid of what they'll say.
