You definitely sound like you have EDS (excessive daytime sleepyness). You don't have cataplexy, but not all narcoleptics do (I don't). Do you ever get sleep paralysis or hallucinate when trying to sleep? My doctor diagnosed me even though my sleep latency was longer than the usual cut off because I have severe SP and hypnogogic hallucinations (I actually had hallucinations during my MSLT). my MSLT had my latency at around 7 min, and i think the cutoff is around 5. However if you consider it takes normal people over an hour to get to REM, it seems kind of trite.

Maybe get another MSLT done? And I'm curious to know what the doctor thought it was after you had the MSLT?
