Dear Robbar,
I usually have an alarm and a "safety" alarm to help me wake up. Actually when I was away at school, my t.v. had a wake-up timer that I would set for my "optimal wake-up time". (You know: shower, blow-dry my hair, eat breakfast, put on make-up). If I could not get up at that time, I'd turn off the t.v. & go back to sleep.
About 20min. later, my alarm clock would go off on buzz (not radio). I set it in the bathroom so I had to get up to shut it off! Then, even if my 1st instinct was to run back to bed, I splashed cold water on my face & brushed my teeth. That always helped me wake-up.
However, the optimal idea is to make your sleep less stressful so you get the rest you need in order to wake-up on time. It's always helpful to give yourself the full amount of sleep you need (even if it is 12hrs.)! Going to bed around the same time will help schedule your body's timer better. It's also a good idea to get up at that same time, even on your days off. It will keep a rhythm going.
And it is a great idea to eliminate sleep-disturbers from your bedroom: A loud t.v. on all night, a snoring pet (yes, they do exist...I have one!), etc...anything that might disturb your nightime sleep. It's imp. to get the most out of it while you can. And lastly, get rid of that snooze button alarm! "Snooze" doesn't last very long on those things (I think about 10min, usually). And chances are that you need longer than that to wake up comfortably.
Well, sorry for babbling! I hope my ideas help you a bit... -Lauren
