I'm an interpreter for the deaf...at least I was when I could still work. LOL Anyway, people who are deaf or hard of hearing use a different types of alarm clocks. One hooks to a lamp and causes the lights in the room to flash. Most deaf people are tend to be very sound sleepers, and lights won't always work. So the other is a vibrating type. It has a pad that slips under the matress, causing the whole mattress to vibrate (just like those old hotel beds) and the amount of vibration can be adjusted.
