Has therapy helped anyone?

Posted by doormouse on February 24, 2001 at 23:58:08:

Hi everyone,
I'm debating seeing a therapist to help me adjust to the fact that my life is never going to be what I'd hoped. I'm not sure if it would help. I feel kind of funny about it because you're essentially paying someone to listen and be your friend. I don't feel like I have very much support or understanding with friends and family although my husband is sort of trying. So I thought getting a more objective view from someone outside of it all would help. I think that I need a little validation. I'm tired of other people telling me that it "can't be that bad". It's not like I'm going through chemo or have to go have dialysis 4 times a week. Has anyone gone to see someone and if so did it work? thanks -doormouse
