Dear Canine,
I relate completely with your dilema! I have had so many fights w/family members, roommates, sorority sisters, & friends when I am exhausted. In fact, my family is even afraid to wake me for dinner! They are used to me screaming at them to "shut up!" when I'm falling asleep. I am usually fine once I fall asleep, but while I am falling asleep I need NO distractions.
I used to feel like a bad person for screaming, but I don't anymore. Since I've been diagnosed, everyone is very understanding & keeps the noise levels down while I sleep...and I hardly ever scream anymore! Every now & then, however, I say nasty things to people who try to wake me up. I ALWAYS hear about it once I wake up, & I NEVER have any recollection of it.
So go figure, the only time it has been a real problem w/me is sharing a suite w/some VERY inconsiderate brats, in college...And vacationing, whether I am sharing a room w/my family or friends.
As far as I know, there is not really a solution. I just try to isolate myself in a quiet room when I have to sleep. Sometimes, if there are people talking outside the room, I turn the t.v. on just low enough to cover the background noise. I find movies to be very helpful b/c they don't have any commercials (which often wake me up) & they usually stay in the same tone of brightness & color. I also find that bright flashing on the t.v. wakes me up...(I usually stick w/a nature show or a Bob Ross type).
Well, good luck getting through it.
All The Best,
Lauren
