Dear O -
The only thing I could possibly offer to this is that there is such a wide range of different types of antidepressants it would take some patience to study them and find out what side effects each produce. When meds are used they are used for their side effects, to lower blood pressure, stop itching, reduce stomach acid etc.
From my understanding the gist of how an antidepressant works is that it triggers connectors in the brain that release our own chemical that is the antidepressant, basically it causes a physical reaction to make the chemical. There are different "families" of antidepressants so a bit of research is needed.
Frankly O I would suggest letting the doc know what the research doc suggested and let him do the research and try a few if that is what u r inclined to do. The doc will have the capability to take into consideration your past hx and other health probs, just call & ask and if the answer isn't satisfactory - call another doc or neuro.
Very simply - take charge, ask the worst he can do is say no, then ask why.
Peace & Sleep Well
Sammy
