Sunlight,

I am glad to hear that you are O.K.; I sent you an email to your hotmail account but maybe you did not get it. In terms of getting your mind off stuff, I find it very difficult to do once your sleep destabilizes into this kind of insomniac, altered consciousness cycle. Normally, I would not suggest a movie as it triggers sleep attacks, but if you are wired and need to de-stress than a funny movie is a good choice or a book because you can get "lost" in them and forget about your stress for a while. Another thing I've done and I know it sounds crazy, is to exercise my guts out (and I am NOT in shape) like by walking and walking and walking in the hopes of tiring my body and mind out enough to sleep. Also, in terms of natural remedies, L-tryptophan is a precursor to serotonin (which causes sleepiness) and you should try to eat substances with it like milk (hence the old wives' tale of a cup of warm milk before bed). You can also try to pick up some valerian root at your health food store as it acts like a natural calmant. I have never tried this and I do not think that there are any drug interactions but you should check with the staff at the store. Also, I have heard that St. John's Wort, another calmant, should not be taken by those of us on anti-d's as there is a drug interaction.

I hope this helps. I too have experienced the agony of bone-aching exhaustion and have not been able to sleep. I usually bang my fist into my headboard in frustration (And damaged my hand in doing so).

Hope you feel better,
Canine.
