Sleep Forum in DC

Posted by Bob on March 04, 2001 at 08:13:31:

If you are thinking about going to the sleep forum in DC March 26 (see below.) I want to remind everyone that Sunday is the last day to get 21-day advanced tickets. To avoid any "commercialism" grief, I won't post specifics but Baltimore (BWI) has very affordable airline rates.

Washington hotels are expensive. However, we will be staying at a nice hotel, [snip-snip] $86/night double-bed, which is three blocks from a DC metro, Red Line stop. From BWI, it costs ~$25 for an airport shuttle [snip-snip] it is possible to take a Metro liner or Maryland commuter train to a DC metro stop but making such connections takes more planning and is only practical for weekday morning or afternoon flights to BWI.

The DC metro system has a one-week, unlimited travel, metro-rail pass that costs $25 or a tourist day-pass, $5.00, good after 9:00 or 9:30 AM, unlimited travel. Compared to parking fees, $11+/day, car rental, and dealing with DC traffic, this is a bargan. When dealing with baggage, use a taxi to the nearest metro. One metro travel tip, the station attendants have plenty of maps and take along a pocket book.

BTW, [snip-snip] Holly and I will be eating in Bethesda on Sunday evening, March 25, and we'd be happy to get reservations for anyone else who wants to join us.
