Philip,
Thanks for the response. I've tried 5-htp which is supposed to do the same thing as tryptophan. It doesn't help much.
About the distilled water, is that to make sure you aren't taking in fluoride? I've heard that could have some effect. I always drink reverse osmosis water.
As for light therapy, I try to go out in the sun in the morning. I've always lived in warm places where I can do that. It seems to make me feel a little more alive sometimes during the day, but that doesn't seem to effect the amount of sleep my body requires.
I did just read (in Sleep Rx) about a way to track how off track your internal body clock is by measuring your body temperature during the day. Most of us can't fall asleep until 4 hours before our body temperature reaches it's low point of the day. It is supposed to peak midafternoon around 3-4pm and then drop 1-3 degrees until it reaches its low point 12 hours later. The book said it is easiest to track your temp in the day every hour for 7 days and then look at where your daytime high temperature is. Then add 12 hours to see when your nighttime low is probably reached. Your body probably wants to fall asleep 4 hours before that point.
Anyways, I'm going to track my temp to see how off my body is.
