Paxil and hair loss

Posted by Rebecca on May 06, 2001 at 12:45:20:

Hi. I started taking Paxil for Cataplexy about a month ago and I've started losing my hair. Has anyone else had this side effect? I'm frustrated, because I'm only 26 and not even my dad is going bald yet! Has anyone else ever experienced this? Did your hair grow back? I have a bald spot on the crown of my head right now, aghhh!!!

I'm trying to wean myself off of the Paxil right now. I want to take something else, but I've found that all anti-depressants can cause hair loss ( it's a rare side effect ). Did anyone ever switch to something else, because of hair loss, and then not have problems with it with another drug? I'm scared to try anything else. I'd rather deal with Cataplexy and have a full head of hair, then be bald without Cataplexy. I have really thick naturally curly hair too, I never thought I would ever have this problem. I've been wearing my hair up alot now, to hide the bald spot. I need some reassurance. Does the hair grow back?

Thanks for any responses.

Rebecca
