Provigil & Ritalin?

Posted by Tired-or-Wired on May 18, 2001 at 10:03:25:

Hi all ... I've been reading for a while, and finally have time to write.

I was diagnosed with N 6 years ago, as was my Mother, two brothers, and at least one aunt -- all within a three-year span.

I've been taking Ritalin, 20 mg four-times-per-day for the past six years, but recently I began increasing my dosage to five or six per day (I think this has much to do with the fact that very recently my life has grown exponentially more stressful ... bought a house, demanding job, etc.). Anyway, afraid of eventually killing myself with stimulants, and sick-and-tired of being either tired or wired, I decided to try Provigil.

My neurologist directed me to take 200 mg twice-per-day, supplementing it with Ritalin if absolutely necessary.
Well, so far it has been very necessary, and I have been taking at least four Ritalin throughout the day in addition to my Provigil dosage.

I tried taking just the Provigil in the morning, but I absolutely could not wake up. (If I don't have a Ritalin on my night-stand to groggily take when the alarm goes off the first (of several-hundred) times, my vivid dreams create effective schemes to suck me back into their compelling, larger-than-life, action thriller/killer, alternate reality dimensions.)

Has anyone had any trouble mixing Provigil with Ritalin? I know this sounds like an absurd amount of medication to be taking, but perhaps I am resistant to the Provigil? Does it take long to kick in? No side effects either ... although my concentration ability seems enhanced -- to the extent that I'll be at work coding ... and the next thing I know it's time to go home.

Sorry for the lengthy note ... first-timer-syndrome, I guess.

Peace to all,
Tired-or-Wired
