I sure do Remember!!
I am a Narcoleptic, a Doctor, and specialist in Pulmonary Medicine/Sleep Disorders in the UK. I am the medical director of a Sleep Laboratory here as well.
I only started to get symptoms of N when I was around 17/18. Before that I would play sports all day and stay out late, had energy to burn!! Then, when I hit those later teen years, I felt so tired I thought I was gonna die of sleep :) Of course, I went to see the doctor and the rest is history.Really, I wouldn't want my life any different. I think my having a sleeping disorder makes me understand patients more, and be a little more "human" when dealing with them and their concerns.
It never interfered with my desire to be a doctor, and I never let it hold me back. I was an ER surgeon for 6 years, having to deal with all sorts of things, and at first people questioned my ability as a doctor (because of the N) and then when they realised I was more than capable, things got much better for me.I hope nobody out there is sad that this silly disorder has held them back in life. You can use it as a crutch, or as a stepping stone to bigger and better things.
All The Best!
