I have recommended this sight, and the others (for Insomnia, RLS, etc.) to all my patients as a wonderful place to find great people and answers to just about any questions they may have.
I know driving has always been a hot topic of debate. When I practiced medicine in Canada, and indeed here in the United Kingdom, when I diagnose a patients as having Narcolepsy, I am bound, by law, to inform the Transport Ministry of my findings straight away. Usually the person's licence is suspended immediately, and for about 6 months, until I can satisfy them that the treatment methods we have adopted are working.
I have been guilty of not doing enough checking (someone lies to me and says they don't have a drivers permit when they actually do). But I know it can take away a persons freedom.I had an 18 year old boy in my office last week saying he had been saving up for 2 years and finally bought his first car. He started crying and asking me not to inform the Transport officials. It is a difficult thing sometimes.
How have many of you made out when diagnosed with Narcolepsy, in regards to driving?
Regards,
Jonathan Fotheringham, MB
