Dr Jon
Here in Pennsylvannia U.S.one of two questions on a driver's permit application is "Do you have Narcolepsy"I'm not sure what will happen if you check yes,and i hope to never find out.
After reading your posts several times I'm tormented to what my reaction is to them,so I will try to respond honestly.Yes, you should be commended on fulfilling a the goal you set for yourself and believe me I have searched deep, very deep for the emotion that will allow me to commend you,but what i truly feel is concern and fear.Narcolepsy/Cataplexy has influenced my emotional life to the point i must search for feelings i havn't allowed myself experience for a long time.Try to understand that my knowledge of how Narcolepsy effects my alertness and decision making ability on a minute to minute basis, that being the patient of a surgeon or any medical pratictioner suffering from Narcolepsy isn't something i'd feel comfortable with doing. You must also understand that Narcolepsy affects as well as affects us all at different levels and at different times during our lives, which in turn will change our goals, something like maybe taking a Grandchild shopping for a day,or to the beach,or zoo or just to be able to feel the confidence to spend the day without fear of causing harm would be far more rewarding than obtaining financial success that day, things like going dancing, singing in church, opening a Christmas gift, giving a Christmas gift, singing happy birthday,to hear from a friend, play catch,go fishing, these are some of what interest me, sure Cataplexy has taken the playfulness away from me,and taking the time and means to personally built a neighborhood playground just to see a child smile and make memories has been rewarding, but it's not what i long for it helps but i still feel unfulfilled emotionally, that is why i still search this forum, and hopefully you could post something about how to overcome these hurdles and others like them.
