Chantal,
I tried the Alertec too, then Dexedrine tablets and then the Ritalin. The Dexedrine worked the best for me and I am now on it again, but this time I am taking the spanules (20 mg. in the a.m.). Because these are slow-release, they last for 10-12 hours in the body so you don't have the troublesome crash period in the early p.m. which I also had with the tablets. Yo might want to check about the spanules with your doc. The only thing is that for me, the Dexedrine tends to affect my night-time sleep, making my quality of sleep even worse (if that's possible). If this happens to you, you may want to check into asking for a night-time sleep aid. I am taking melatonin, which is banned in Canada, that I have gotten through my doctor since he has special permission from the government to dispense it in certain cases. Melatonin is a natural hormone found in the pineal gland which helps to promote sleep. My doc is trying to "reset" my body-clock by giving me this stuff at night and then having me take the stims during the day. So far, it seems to be helping--I've only been on it for a few days--but it is so experimental for treating N, or Atypical Narcolepsy Syndrome as I have. People with IH are prescribed melatonin here in Canada quite regularly from what I gathered from my doc.
Hope this helps. Let me know what happens.
Canine.
