Hi, not sure if this is the same, but having spoken with my GP at length again this morning and the consultant they are certain(?) that I do and have suffered from epilepsy for 12 years and that the EDS is caused by seizures. The seizures in question are complex-partial and will induce a sleep like state that lasts for around 30 seconds. To me it seems a lot longer. But these have now been timed. For a period after I suffer from EDS/disorientation/memory loss and other similar N symptoms. I have quite a few of these seizures each day so once you add them all up, you can see how easy it is to liken it to N. We are trying some new medication now but unfortunately while it may shut down the part of the brain that causes seizures (not yet) it does also take away in many cases from the person, causing EDS.

Hope this helps? And I hope you get some answers soon.
