laughing & cataplexy & safety

Posted by new2me on June 30, 2001 at 09:07:02:

I'm new here, and I have a new family member (married my mother) that appears to have cataplexy. Says it only occurs while laughing. Question - can a person have cataplexy w/o narcolepsy? 2nd question - how concerned should we be about this person driving? He is receiving no medical treatment, and he is a bus driver. EEK! I'm kind of worried about his job choice, but what can I do...it would be difficult to steer him to another type of job.
