How does he know to call this cataplexy? Perhaps he knows about narcolepsy.
I also have what I would describe as a mild case of cataplexy, and actively deny any symptoms to the doctors so as to not be put on an additional drug to treat it, and to not have problems whith driving licence. Actually the medications Ive been on have really curbed the mild cataplexy. I know a few narcs. with really signifigant and debilitating cataplexy, you certainly wouldnt want them behind any wheel.
Bus driving doesnt sound like a good job for this person, but it also doesnt seem like its your place to say anything. (Maybe to your mom can.)
I would say that its not always better to get diagnosed. Health insurance is a big issue (not being able to get coverage) and also, having to be on medication to legally drive. I know this is contrary thing to say, but this was a big concern of mine.
