Some questions

Posted by Psyduck on July 03, 2001 at 13:45:48:

I have some questions that may sound stupid in this forum, because you probably know more than I do, but then again, there must be someone her that can answer them.
I thought I suffered from Epilepsy, because I lose consiousness about 10 times every day (mostly without warning an followed by serious headaches). But when I took and EEG a month ago the found signs of Narcolepsy. Only to be sure they have to take an other and logner lasting EEG. But the hospital personell of course are on vacation know so I just have to wait and wait. It`s almost 2 years since I got sick know and this time has been like an endless waitinglist.
The reason I thought I had Epilepsy was because that can be caused by lack of progesteron, after serveral years use of hormone contraseptives. So I wonder if Narcolepsy also can be caused by this?
And if so, does this mean that the Narcolepsy will go away if I could get my progesteron level back to normal?
And how long will this take after having stopped taking the contraseptive? Have anyone experience with taking a hormone drug called Progynova against this?
Does any one know if there are any doctors or hospitals in Norway that know something about Narcolepsy? I really need someone to talk to about medication and what else to do about this condition, cause I really feel I`m at the edge where my whole life will fall apart any minuitt now.
And is it normal that Narcolepsy (or epilepsy) should be diagnosed only on the basis of EEG? Shoulden`t somebody be asking me about my symptoms and in what situation they appear?
Is it normal in other contries that it takes 2 years to get a diagnosis?
I`m sure it sounds strange to you all, but I really hope that a can get a diagnosis that I have Narcolepsy. As it is now I just some weird person that lose consiousness all the time. Having a name for it will be better than nothing.
