Psyduck....interesting story...while I don't know all the anwsers to your question, let me give some anwsers...

How did the docs diagnose Narcolepsy on the basis of an EEG? Was it a normal EEG, a sleep deprived one?

The "extended time" EEG the docs are referring to, is that a video telemetry EEG or a MSLT (multiple sleep latency test). Since the MSLT is really the only way (as of now) to formally diagnose Narcolepsy....
