Since you are not on any meds, the tightness cannot be due to any side-effects. I have a theory (and have posted it before) that fibromylagia (a chronic pain sydrome) is a secondary illness in those with N. I was diagnosed with Fibro before I was diagnosed with N. I had a lot of achiness and stifness and pain all over my body, but especially my neck, back, hips and shoulders. It started with pain and weakness and stiffness between my shoulder blades. Eventually the sore area stretched all the way up to the base of my skull and also all the way down to my fingertips (sometimes). In any case, Fibro is a condition which is gaining recognition on its own, however I think that it is linked with N in a definite way. Fibro can be simulated in lab studies by keeping a patient awake for 48 hours. After this amount of time without sleep, the patient experiences all of the same aches and pains of a person with Fibro. Interesting.... since N is about poor quality and non-restful sleep, then we are basically like the sleep-deprived patient and can start to suffer the aches and pains of F. Anyway, check out literature on F and you'll see why I make this connection.

As for weight gain, I recently glanced at a study (on Medline I think but do an internet search) that was done about the tendency for obesity in N patients and any family members with N. Although I am NOT saying that you are obese, I think that maybe the study will help give you an idea (like for example if we have a slower metabolic rate) why you may have gained weight. I certainly have gained weight (20 pounds) within the last two years but I attribute that to the meds even though the Dexedrine I'm on now does a good job of killing my appetite during the day.
