Unusual narcolepsy...or just tired?

Posted by DozyGuy on August 13, 2001 at 11:23:51:

Is it possible that I have narcolepsy, with only excessive daytime sleepiness showing? (this is my major, life-altering symptom...I don't have sleep paralysis, hallucinations, or muscles going limp).

Also, I don't suddenly and spontaneously lose consciousness outwith my control. I just have to take frequent naps, and am dog tired during the day no matter how well I have slept.
When I wake up, I don't really feel refreshed, and feel like I could just turn over and go on sleeping on and on, you know? There is also a sublte and hard-to explain feeling as if I am drugged in some sleepy sort of way most of the time, or as if I am not fully aroused. My doc claimed there was no meds which could help and airily dismissed it as "something like ME" which "might go away in 5 or 10 years". Is that it...or what else can I do?
