I'm so sorry about your situation, T.R.; wish there was some way I could help. My only ideas now are most likely nothing new to you, like changing doctors and writing Provigil's manufacturer about availability where you live.

Maybe Cephalon can tell you the closest place they distribute the drug to. It would be great if they could even give you some doctor's names, too. I imagine they have an email address, but all I have is: Cephalon, Inc.; West Chester, PA 19380; USA.

I don't know how practical it is for you to change doctors, but since he's never prescribed meds for narcolepsy before, he's probably not your best bet.

I'm in the process of changing doctors AGAIN. You're right, it's kind of puzzling that he wants me to try something else even though I'm satisfied with the Ritalin. But, my real hope is xyrem (GHB,) because it sounds like it might work more directly on the cause, rather than the symptoms. Though it's not available yet, I want to be lined up with a real sleep specialist. My present doctor is technically only treating me for ADD; and he scoffed at the idea that a drug to help with sleep could help someone who's sleepy all the time--though I explained that tests show the quality of my sleep is extremely poor, and that I NEVER experience deep sleep!

So, anyway, all we can really do is cling to the hope that our disorder will someday be better understood and more effectively and easily treated; in fact, we need to DEMAND that it be. There has definitely been real progress made lately in the field---so we mustn't give up!
