saw a doc, now I have questions (long)

Well, I've been home from college for less than a week now, and my parents sent me to a local sleep doctor (a colleague of my father), to confirm my sleep issues up to this point in time. And, let me start with a condensed version of my story:

Anyway, the doctor here at home, confirmed my OSA (i've been on CPAP ~2wks.), and is leaning more towards N as the cause of my problem (as opposed to seizures). Only problem is, I haven't had an MSLT....

I'd need to come off my meds (Effexor, for depression, and ritalin for ADD) for an MSLT. However, I don't think I could readilly come of my meds during the academic year......so it looks like I have to wait until winter break (december), to finally get a diagnosis.

In the mean while, back at school (I'm at a college in Boston), the doctors in Boston are not sure of the diagnosis. The next thing they want to try is to use an ambulatory EEG monitor for me to record my "episodes". Has anyone else had to use an ambulatory EEG for diagnosing N?

Secondarilly, I know that there is talk of the discover of the N "gene"....I'm just wondering if anyone knows where news can be found about the progress of this research?
(my mom is thinking that my dad's side of the family shows a tendency towards EDS and possibly N).

Third, with regard to driving....does anyone know if most states explicitely forbid people with N driving (e.g. is it in print anywhere?) I'm just wondering.....
(at least not driving gets me out of teaching my younger sister how to drive). ;)

Also, the doc is gonna try me on a little provigil (200mg) to see how I feel with that. Could anyone tell me the approximate amount of time provigil works for? And also, is it a "controlled" substance like Ritalin (or the other methamphetamines?)

Thanks in advance :)
