I've heard that there are states, specifically California, Texas, and Oregon, that do forbid driving until you're "successfully treated", ie, no episodes for 6 months.

As for Provigil, I'm on it and it works great for me. The first month it gave me headaches, but those went away. I've got some fogginess, but at this point I think it's a fair trade. Provigil is not in the same class as Ritalin (or the other anphetimines) and has no lasting side-effects or addictive properties according to studies. It's much easier to get- you can get refils and the pharmacy will give it to you a few days before, etc. Provigil is supposed to have a "working time" of about 15 hours. I try to take mine in the late morning, like around 10 am so I can stay up a little later. It seems to last around 10 to 12 hours for me.

Here's my advice- do the MSLT. I'm up for another one, and I won't kid you- they're a serious pain. I've got mine scheduled for a Monday so that I can stop taking my meds for the weekend and not be a vegetable at work. EDS can be caused by so many things; N, OSA, thyroid, depression, cancer, etc. You really do want to know what it is so that you can take the appropriate path.
