Diagnosis IS worth it

undediced -

For me, and I think for most PWN's, diagnosis is definately worth whatever trouble and energy I had to expend to get it. Most of us have spent years (sometimes 10's of years) wondering if we're lazy or have some sort of character flaw. I know I certainly went through that. Once I accepted the diagnosis and started learning how to live with narcolepsy (including taking medication), my life is immeseaurbly better. Narcleopsy may not be life-threatening, but the disease can certainly destroy the QUALITY of one's life. All you have to do to confirm this is to read the postings on this forum. You'll see storeis of lost jobs, lost relationships, lost confidence, isolation, and lives that are in general pretty bad. It's pretty hard to "calm down about a problem that is not lifethreatening" when you've just lost you job because of the problem!
