When I was taking Provigil, I used to get night terrors that would end in sleep paralysis with HH once a night for weeks on end. Two or three times I woke up with serious audio buzzing in my head and was scared to death because I could see a transparent greenish alien with huge eyes floating over my body. I was afraid to sleep at all during this period, and I don't consider myself a paranoid person.

Otherwise, I do get paralysis often and do the same thing to get out of it that I do to wake my body up in the morning: dedicate all of my will to moving a finger or toe. It's somehow easiest to move these parts first, and once one part starts moving, the rest are soon to follow. Don't know if this is possible for others, but it does help me.
