MWT.....

Posted by sadie on October 06, 2001 at 14:36:39:

Can someone explain how an MWT works and contributes to diagnosis of N? I read in one of the recent studies (which someone had mentioned here in the forum) that some doctors are going with this study for a diagnosis, perhaps, instead of the MSLT.

Although my test results for the MSLT clearly resembled Narcolepsy, I recently did the MWT also. For those of you who don't know, in this study they try to see how long you can stay awake for about a forty minute period of time, sitting up in a dark room with absolutely no stimulus whatsoever. Like the MSLT, it is repeated four times throughout the day. When you fall asleep, they wake you up.

So, anyway, I have done this more than once, but I am not sure what they are exactly looking for, and how it ends up conclusive for narcolepsy in the first place.

Does anyone know? I am curious.

Thanks!
