Posted by ZonedOut on October 09, 2001 at 21:03:14:Hello. They say that teenagers need at least 9 hours of sleep, and the ideal suggestion would be to go to bed earlier, but in many cases this is not possible! I am a high school student who is also involved with theatre, so there are times during the year when I don't get out of rehearsal until 11:30 at night. I find that a lot of my tiredness has to do with what time I wake up, and not actually the number of hours of sleep I get at night. Even if I go to sleep late, but I'm allowed to wake up at 9, I'm fine. Unfortunately, I can't control the time I am allowed to wake up during the weekdays, of course, because of school. I'm often tired during the day, and this affects my concentration in class; a few times a week I will have a period of extreme sleepiness during class that will last for about 5-10 minutes, and suddenly I will be extremely alert again. I tend to stay up and sleep in on weekends; I don't know if this has a major effect on my tiredness during the week or not. My question is...Is there a way to train myself so I can function well on less sleep? Thanks.
