Smilie:

I did a bit o' research for you on this subject a few days ago - just now getting to post it - sorry:(.

PLEASE NOTE: Like the Disclaimer says: THIS IS NOT INTENDED TO BE MEDICAL ADVICE. STATEMENTS BELOW ARE FOR INFORMATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS CONTACT YOUR M.D.:)

Ok, here we go:) When a medication is being studied for approval it goes through 4 phases I believe. Phase I and II are when it is new and experimental. Phase III is a placebo-controlled (some pt's given "sugar pill" & some given provigil) clinical trials and Phase IV is "now" (they use data from general public to continue evaluation of drug). In phase III "abnormal liver functions" was reported by 3% of those who participated (369 people participated). However, this does not mean that it will happen to you or that it won't. Your situation is unique to you - your characteristics and other factors may be different than those that were present for the people of the clinical trials. Whatever your situation is - ie the other medication that effects your liver - could effect how the Provigil acts/doesn't act on you.

When there is a problem with the liver, it has to work harder to accomplish a task that would be easy for a normal liver. When it works harder, the enzymes become elevated; when it works harder for a long time - it gets tired and doesn't function as well. This is where the problem comes in because it doesn't "clear" things out of your system like it should and things get backed up. ie: if you take a med that is "cleared" by the liver - if it isn't working right you build up that med in your system and the high level of that med in your system could become a problem.

I hope that provides a decent explanation for you. Hopefully, more data will become available soon for us to look at. UNTIL THEN: SEE YOUR MD ON A REGULAR BASIS. ASK FOR LIVER PANEL (I am doing mine every 6 months just cause). IF YOU HAVE ANY, ANY, ANY PROBLEMS - TALK TO MD.
