I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder for years, but three years ago was rediagnosed with cycloid psychosis (not an American DSM diagnosis) so probably would still be consider bipolar. Anyway I have been taking provigil for two months now and an just starting to notice an elevation of mood toward the manic. It is a very mild elevation and is actually a good thing as I was kind of on the depressed side before as I am dealing with job insecurity, sleep apnea, EDS, high blood pressure, loneliness, boredom, fear of this terrorist thing, money troubles, etc, etc. So there is something to what the psych says, but... it seems to take a long time to start up and can be monitored. My psych is just keeping track of my mental state and if the effect seems to be getting out of hand we will back off on the dosage or discontinue it. Cylert will get your liver, the amphetimines aren't good for bipolars, so all in all, provigil really is the best choice, you just have to watch it. Good luck with your treatment. I really do know what you are going through.
