Could I have narcolepsy?

Posted by Asta on December 31, 2001 at 08:35:31:

I know that I definitely have a sleeping disorder of some kind or another. Only now I have been through so many misdiagnosis and meds that affect sleep that I can't tell what is going on. When I take the sleep test it reports that I show signs of apnea, insomnia, and narcolepsy. Is it possible to have more than one? I was always getting in trouble as a teenager for taking too many afternoon naps, I constantly fell asleep in collage classes, I have a very high potential for falling asleep while driving, if my husband is driving, I always fall asleep, I often feel like my body could just collapse, and I have always had very strong vivid dreams from which I wake up feeling like I have not slept at all. I often have half-dreams or hallucination type things as I am falling asleep even though I am not all the way asleep. These symptoms can happen whether I have had no sleep or lots of sleep. No matter how much sleep I get, I cannot get up in the morning. I also have periods of having trouble getting to sleep and some nights I have problems with frequent waking. But like I said, even if I get 10 hours of sleep, I still can have a lot of daytime sleepiness. I was treated for depression but I didn't really feel depressed and it didn't really help. The latest diagnosis is ADD - the stimulant Adderall helps my daytime sleepiness but aggravates my insomnia. I am soooo confused, but I am beginning to think all of this is a sleep disorder and not depression and ADD.
