Something similar happens to me, too. Sometimes I wake from sleep attacks (mostly) or nights and I all of a sudden I find myself sitting up or standing by the bed (or whereever I fell asleep...) wide awake. It`s as I have gotten up a few seconds before I woke up.
Sometime this is trigged by the found or another sound, but most of the time I have a feeling that there is an other reason, but I can`t remember what it was. Probably a REM sleep dream.
