I know that the basic medication is the same. However, the compounds the medication is IN can be different. For instance, some generic forms of motrin have additives that can interfere with the absorption of the med. Even over the counter Motrin is different than prescription Motrin in that the base the med is in is different. Some people are not affected by this, some are.
In light of all this, there could be some difference for some people with the ritalin as well. I know that some children with ADHD cannot take the generic form. After having been on brand name Ritalin and switching to generic methylphenidate (ritalin) their behaviors suddenly escalate with increased aggression, and return of other symptoms as well. Researchers do not know why, but this phenomenon has been exhibited in more than a handful of children.....
