Posted by Wife on May 05, 2002 at 09:11:57:My husband was diagnosed with idiopathic hypersomnia in 1990 at the age of 43. He has been through most of the drug therapies(ritalin, prozac, trazadone, provigil, etc.). None were effective, and some caused aggressive behavior. He hasn't taken anything(except the trial on provigil) since 1994. He manages his symptoms with naps and coffee. He consumes 2-3 pots a day. He was diagnosed in November of 2001 with atrial fibrillation directly related to caffiene consumption. Taking him off coffee, coupled with the heart meds to control arrythmia has put him into a sleep cycle in excess of 16 hours a day. So, he is back to coffee, and has arrythmias. His cardiologist is working him up now for possible surgery(ablation) to allow him to drink coffee without causing the A. Fib. Anyone out there with similar experience?
