Narcolepsy & codeine, vicodin, darvocet

Posted by Lilli on May 12, 2002 at 13:21:16:

I read of studies that showed that codeine can be beneficial to people with narcolepsy. I was thinking about this last night as I lay wide awake having taken a darvocet prescribed by my surgeon for post-surgery pain. I've had this reaction in the past with vidodin. Most people I know become drowsy with codeine and such. Why do narcoleptics have a different reaction? I don't plan on using codeine or darvocet beyond pain relief for the short term, but being wide awake is a curious side effect.

I guess I'll skip the darvocet tonight. But right now, mid-afternoon, when I usually feel sleepy, I am raring to go!
