living with narcolepsy

Posted by doggie groomer on August 04, 2002 at 17:07:41:

I was diagnosed about a month ago and my doctor prescribed provigil. It is not working anymore and to get the doctors around here to understand this is impossible!
My profession is a mobile dog groomer and I think the biggest problem I am facing is trying to get my customers to understand that this is a serious disease. I get the common remarks" Just take a nap if your'e sleepy." Duh, what genius has said that to you guys before. anymore I am getting pretty depressed because I can't do anything like I used to do. I was active in crafts and my job and lately I feel like I just want to lay down and die. I know this sounds harsh but I have no energy after the tiniest of chores. My family doesn't understand because they want to blame it on my weight. i am 6'0" and 215 lbs. Every doctor I went to said the same thing. Lose the weight and you'll feel better. i even had one make the comment, being a woman I just have to deal with living with stress and quit complaining about tiredness because everyone does. Can you believe this thinking? I finally found a neurologist who diagnosed me but it seems like he's a little slow on explaining this disease to me. I have found out more on the internet than from him.

Anyway I just needed to vent because no one around seems to understand what I am going through and I only wish we had a support group here locally so I could really see how thi s can affect me for the rest of my life. By the way I just turned 30, heck of a way to remember your 30th birthday huh?
