Rosamond,
That reminds me of something else we discussed that probably relates to this. Several who joined our discussions say that they have low blood pressure. Not just good low, I mean really low. Mine has never been questioned but it is abnormally low and always has been. Same w/ my mother who I suspect has N. Even some who are on stimulants still have low BP.And then there is the question of whether our body temp is affected when we eat. I often get cold when I begin to eat or drink. I also can get shaky from eating, or not eating, or even just being in the heat. It seems to sort of mirror hypoglacemia, which my GP does not believe I have.
And one more piece for the puzzle. There is a danger for PWN who are undergoing anesthesia. I read somewhere where all sleep docs should tell their patients that when they are dx'd w/ N. But they don't. A PWN should make known before going into any surgery that they have N and there is the danger of the anesthia not working correctly--either in not truly putting them out and their continued awareness during the surgery, or in the more common possibility that they will have problems coming out of the anesthesia. It can be handled by a competent anesthesiologist, but forewarning helps them be better prepared to deal with it.
I've only had two surgeries and the second time was a more involved one w/ a longer period that I was under. I almost didn't go out and remembered conversations with my doctor who believed I was well on my way to being under and she told me I wouldn't remember anything that was happening at that time. But I clearly do. I also was freezing in the recovery. Could not get warm even under heated blankets and insisted they wrap me in a blanket to send me home in the 80 or 90 degree heat of August. That is the other problem w/ surgery--body temps drop dramatically and they have a hard time getting it brought back up. Not saying this is true w/ all but it seems to go w/ the N. So Beware!
