Provigil is a new drug, even though they know that there are no short term effects there is no garrentee that there isn't any long term effects. I'm on 500 mg (300mg in the morning and 200 mg afternoon). My sleep doctor says he has some patients on up to 800 mg daily. I was told that the meds only last and stay in your body about 5 hours. But I do know that I can skip a day and be ok. Anything longer and my old harsh symptoms will come back. This implies that they affect my body longer than 5 hours. But one thing the provigil has failed to do is take away my lack in concentration and tiredness. I don't so much have the strong desire to sleep, but dozes off or allow my eyes to glaze over and become nonresponsive.
I am also glad to know that I am no the only one going through all this. But it does surprise me how few people know about their Narcolepsy in college. It is hard to find someone you can relate to in college. I'm sure there are a lot of people my age going through life right now not knowing they have Narcolepsy.
